Lindsay's Teen to Teen Book Review

With Ned Vizzini's novel It's Kind of a Funny Story, he joins the ranks of John Green and Stephen Chobosky by using unique humor and witty dialogue to convey messages that actually reasonate with teenagers, not mock them. Fifteen year old Craig Gilner struggles to find a way for his ambitious spirit, pride, and high expectations for the future to coexist with what seems to have become the largest part of him: his depression.  Through candid anecdotes and flashbacks, the reader gets an inside look on what's going on in Craig's world. What drove him to the point of admitting himself to a mental hospital and all of the realizations he makes along the way. His story proves that friendship can be found in even the most unlikely places, within the walls of a New York state asylum included.  Craig lives, loves, laughs, and ultimately grown from his experiences and even the most reluctant reader will find themselves growing along with him.
